C.H.Beck, established in 1763, is one of the great names in German publishing. The Literatur & Science arm of the firm asked us for a redesign of their site in order to remain competitive in today's rapidly changing publishing industry.
Searching and browsing for books was not as well supported as it could be. We optimised the site's navigation system, lifted the search box, and laid out the menu top and right much
The redesign of the site also included a thorough review of colours, typography and layout structure of the various page types. We worked out a new colour scheme based on the traditional corporate Red, but adding some Yellow and Cyan to the palette for an overall fresher look.

On the homepage we optimised the page grid to accomodate more titles while providing great clarity and easy browsing. We introduced the serif font Georgia into the Design referring back to the historical company Logo. Recent additions to the site include a new Events section. Events and readings now appear along each title as well as on the individual author page.
Users can view search results as a traditional list or switch to a "tile" view. Cover tiles of a book title bring out the beautiful design of the cover clearly giving users a better taste of the book.
On the detail page for each book we added a new browsing element which holds press snippets, upcoming readings by the author and related titles. Users can flip between the different views via tabs.
